--Latest release provides ability to disconnect and reconnect links between devices --

Nashua, NH – August 15, 2005 Gambit Communications, a leading provider of network simulation tools, today announced the general availability of MIMIC® Virtual Lab CCNA version 1.50. MIMIC Virtual Lab is an enhanced training tool to support Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) CCNA® certification. It creates a real world lab environment for training centers and network engineers with a network of Cisco Routers and Switches. The primary benefit is that it enables a hands-on learning experience without needing to buy expensive equipment.

Gambit Communications' President & CTO, Uwe Zimmermann, stated, "This is a major leap forward in our MIMIC Virtual Lab products. With this new release, we have introduced powerful ways of using IOS simulation for Cisco training. The CCNA students can practice in a free-form manner the configuration of routers and switches with thousands of Cisco IOS commands and their connectivity. Bundled with a large set of guided lab exercises makes this a perfect training tool."

MIMIC Virtual Lab CCNA consists of a simulated network of Cisco routers, switches with LAN, WAN and ISDN connections. Some of the new features include:

  • Links Connect / Reconnect: The users can modify the lab by connecting and reconnecting links between devices. This instructs them about link failures, allowing them to explore related side effects, such as routing table changes and SYSLOG messages.
  • SNMP Security: Practice the configuration of SNMP using the "snmp-server" command. The users can enable/disable the SNMP agent, thus preventing security breaches.
  • Dynamic IOS Commands: Create their own IOS commands using dynamic aliases via the "alias" command.
  • The MIMIC Virtual Lab CCNA version 1.50 release is available immediately from Gambit.
